Matthew in Dublin – Windmill Lane Recording Studios

Recently I had a lovely day out at the Windmill Lane Recording Studio, and I had a brilliant time.

Located on the Grand Canal Dock, it was easily accessible as it was a short walk from the DART station.

Windmill Lane is a fully functional recording studio who work with world famous artists, such as U2, David Bowie, The Spice Girls, Niall Horan and many more.

After looking around at the records that lined the hallway walls, the guided tour began. It began with our tour guide teaching our group all about music production, showing us all how to digitally alter sounds and make music.

We then came down the stairs to studio three, where we all got the chance to mix our own songs just like an audio engineer. There were hundreds of buttons and knobs to mess around with and it was great fun.

We then went up the stairs where we found a wall full of famous artistsā€™ signatures and polaroid photos from their time at the studio. It was super cool to be in the same building as all of my favourite artists.

We then went into studio two, where we learnt all about the equipment such as the soundproofing on the walls and ceiling and the huge speakers. From studio two you could see into a room in which artists could perform and record their music.

We then went through a door into this room and experienced binaural music. I put my headphones on and closed my eyes and it felt like there was a performer running circles around my head.

The Windmill Lane experience was a great one and Iā€™d recommend it to any music lovers on a day out in Dublin.
